Questionable Intent...

Attached is a video recently produced with the intent to be hurtful toward people who disagree with their point of view. Sad things have come to this. I drafted a response that will probally never see the light of day other than here... please read the comments then enjoy the video. (or via versa :) ~G.

It’s always good to hear and see footage of Leo. I miss him dearly and think of him constantly. I know all who were close to him do. Thank you posting! Thank you, but also shame on you for using Leo’s name and images to settle your personal grievances, especially when there are claims are being made of taking the “high road.” Instead of focusing on the many gifts Leo bestowed upon “us all” and the positive impact he has made and continues to make on martial practitioners world wide both past, present, and future, people are left wondering about the back story and the rift within his organization. Leo’s Legacy deserves better than that.

To respond to claims, I don’t believe Tony Somera’s position as Bahala Na’s Grand Master has ever been put into question. I was there when Tony was promoted. It happened. I also don’t disagree that within his jurisdiction, Tony Somera has the right to change, rename, mix, and create anything he wants. He’s done a good job modifying, stretching, and adapting Leo’s material so far and I congratulate him. In a lot of ways I look forward to seeing even more. Again, no one should be saying he can’t.

“Giron Speaks – For the Record” is definitely eye opening. As shady as filming private conversations that were never ment for public viewing seems and presenting them in a way that is intended to be hurtful to members of Leo’s own family, and producing them as a one sided presentation of the bigger picture, I believe Leo’s own statements within the film strongly reinforces the one thing we the members of Bahala Na Multi-Style “HAVE” always claimed both in writing and through word of mouth. “We gather independently from other Giron Escrima Organizations to Honor our teacher and friend Leo Giron in the best way we know how… by teaching Leo Giron’s Original Art of Escrima.”

Yes, we (Bahala Na Multi-Style Escrima Club) teach the old style from the old worksheets. And although the new style or “new worksheet” is sanctioned and certified by the Leo Giron’s legitimate successor… “it’s just not Leo’s material.” Thank you for making that clear.

Many blessing to you and yours.

Backyard Training.

">

Bahala Na Multi-Style is growing and evolving. Our kids (literally) are raised with skill and fighting spirit as the norm. During any given class, you will find seasoned (15 to 20 plus years experience)instructors numbering in the teens and 20 to 30 hard hitting-hard blocking kids of all levels. It's a perfect storm! I can't wait to see what grows from the seeds we plant today.

The above vid is of our pre-teens picked at random. They are learning to apply the techniques learned in Estilo De Fondo.

Larga Mano - Reterada Drill

(Aka. Largo Mano) Is commonly practiced as a long range stick fighting method. Our late instructor Grandmaster Leo M. Giron used Larga Mano weaponry (bolo and panabas), concepts, and techniques in defense of the Philippines during World War II. An Escrimador before the war, Grandmaster Giron learned first hand the real meaning of hand to hand close quarter combat. As a US soldier in the Allied Intelligence Breau (A.I.B.) He was responsible for gathering intelligence and organizing local resistance, laying the groundwork for General Douglas McCarthur's liberation of the Philippines. Attached is a clip of Dexter Labanoog and myself freestyling one of the major drills passed on to us by Grandmaster Giron.

Dedicated to my friend and instructor Leo Giron. The more we sweat, the more we burn reminds us of our time with you.

Update March 9, 2010

Wow, so much has been going on lately. Finally getting more than a few hours sleep a day. Its only now I realize just how much has been on my plate. No complaints here. Its completely of my own doing and I'm really enjoying myself and wouldn't have it any other way.

To summarize, I have been teaching a dedicated group at Kemscrima Doh HQ in Merced. Nurturing our rapidly growing and developing Sunday classes in Stockton(Thanks to my brother Eric for always being there, hangover or no-hangover)Helping and sparring on a hit and miss basis Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings with my brothers in arms "Bahala Na Multi-Style." Workshops both teaching and attending, escrima-tutoring Leo Giron's material by request, and participating in Bahala Na Multi-Style's first 2010 demonstration rounds off my list.

My apologies if I have not been keeping up with everyone. Ha-ha! I still have a family to attend to.

Thanks everyone for your continued support. Check back often for videos and pics of this years adventures. Contact me to say "what's up" or inquire about what we do. Afterall, the purpose of the club is to learn, share, and connect.

Much love and respect.
